PC-BSD 1.2 RELEASED TO GENERAL PUBLIC
Official 1.2 Release of the Desktop Operating System Based on FreeBSD® UNIX.
PC-BSD software is pleased to announce the immediate availability of
PC-BSD 1.2 for x86 based processors. PC-BSD 1.2 now utilizes the FreeBSD
advanced ULE scheduler and is compiled with optimizations for 686 processors
(all support for 386, 486 and 586 microcode is disabled in kernel). This
release of PC-BSD ushers in a new era of stability and simplicity for
desktop operating systems based on UNIX, making it a solid release for home
and business usage. Version 1.2 is powered by the latest FreeBSD 6.1 OS and
integrated with the popular KDE 3.5.3 desktop environment.
This release of PC-BSD provides numerous new features in the base
system, such as Denyhosts for network security, python-qt / python-kde for
SuperKaramba support, DesktopBSD Network / User Toolset, Zip support, and more!
Due to the nature of the UNIX operating system, PC-BSD gives you a high
degree of protection from the ever growing threat of attacks from mal-ware,
spy-ware and viruses that plague other popular operating systems today.
In addition to these new features, PC-BSD still provides support for over
50 native languages, 3D hardware acceleration support for common graphics
cards, and utilizes the new software installation method (PBI or PC-BSD
Installer) that removes troublesome library dependency problems.
