I know the hardware isn't broken for sure. I have a Ubuntu Hoary 5.04. What can I do? I don't know if there is any connection but dual audio doesn't work either in my system. What can I do? Thanks in advance.

You need to turn up your mic capture.
To do this run alsamixer and press F5 then go to mic capture.

Had the same problem and found the following solution:

In alsamixer press F4. Now you see the different recording devices, by using the left/right keys select “Mic” and press Space. Now scroll to “Capture” and press Space again. Now it should work.
