Hi has anyone got anyexperience of quicktime. I wish to edit mp2 /3 files that I have recorded by simple cutting and selecting preferably without any recoding., I would like something similar to mp3direct cut which I use on winxp. Audacity seems an overkill for my needs but I might consider it. I am new to linux .Using fedora 2 at the moment but could change if needed. Rob

I think it isn't necessary to change your distribution. Fedora supports a lot of program. I used to Audacity, and I have good experience. You can modify the mp3 file, and there are a lot of plugin. I suggest to try it, and if you don't like it, you can remove.

Thanks for the help and advice. I have now got audacity running fine on fedora 2 after a bit of fiddling with lame files .But I found that it was too slow and cumbewrsome for what I wanted.I have now installed wine and mp3directcut which works great. What is the advantage of upgrading to a newer fedora core? Will the newer cores need more pc power. At the moment I am using an Intel p3 500 with 128mb memory.

Will the newer cores need more pc power. At the moment I am using an Intel p3 500 with 128mb memory.

Next week I will change my SuSE 10.1 to Fedora 5, so I can tell you if it uses more pc power Smiley (but it is understandable that the new version uses more resources, and it will be a bit slow.) My computer is 5 years old (800 MHz, 128 MB RAM etc). I'm using now SuSE 10.1, sometimes it is a bit slow (under KDE), but there are many GUI, like Gnome, which aren't so slow.

Fedora 5 is more safely, it support more hardware and software and the kernel version is changed since Fedora 2. So if you can solve it, I suggest to install Fedora 5, but I can tell you details after a week, after I install Fedora 5 Smiley
