Localhost Login Screen Looping

Hello,

My problem stems from the option that I changed in my display settings. I (being the curious fellow) set my laptop to use Dual Head. I now realize that this option is mainly for video cards that support multiple monitors. The problem is, my localhost login screen continues to loop. With that said, I cannot see my graphical login screen. I am unable to login because the text-mode login constantly flickers (or resets).

I am sure that the problem was caused to that change in the display setting. I have tried the rescue mode for Fedora Core 4 (the distro that I use) to no success. If you could please tell me which file I need to modify in order to reset my configurations, I would GREATLY appreciate it.

I have some knowledge about the filesystem which led me to look at the xorg.conf file. This file didn't do much to solve my problem as there is no clear option for Dual Head.

My curiousity stems from the inability to change the resolution on my laptop. I managed to change the resolution to a 1024x768 on my desktop computer, but the same methods don't seem to work for my laptop. My main goal at this moment is to just restore my settings and be able to login again.

I use an IBM Thinkpad A21M. My video card is an ATI RAGE MOBILITY. Fedora Core 4.

Thanks,
Joel

Did you take a backup copy of your /etc/X11/XF86Config or /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 or /etc/X11/xorg.conf file depending on whether you are using Xfree86 or xorg ?

Boot from a LiveCD, and restore your backup/original X configuration file.
