Dual Monitor Support
Subject: Dual Monitor Support

I have a DELL precision workstation 470. It has a nVIDIA Quadro FX 1400, 128 Mb dual VGA or DVI card and a Redhat Enterprise Linux WS 4 installed. I have two DELL 1704FPT monitors and they are connected to this single video card. When the computer starts, I can see the startup information on both monitors until it enters X window startup, when one monitor cease to function. The other one works normally. I tried to change the display settings. I could select "dual head" option, but there was no associated video card and I couldn't manually select anything.

What's wrong with the system? Do I have to change the configuration for X window? One video card seems ok, right?

Thanks a lot.

Your single card is a multi-head display? Try xinerama for a start:

If possible, can you send us a picture of your display setup? It will be nice to see dual heads.

Sure. Here is my xorg.conf:

If you want to have two independent X screen, delete "Option  "Xinerama" "on".
Have fun.

# By default, Red Hat 6.0 and later now use a font server independent of
