Hello,  I have just installed fedora core 5 and am having problems with the configuration.  1st there is no sound in gnome. 2nd i have an additional package cd besides the dvd that I got.  What would be the easiest way to install the packages without having to got through the rpm's 1 at a time?  I tried to use add/remove packages but this seems to just freez up on "resolving dependancies."  I really like it and do not want to re-install CenOS.  Can you tell me how to do theese things and lock down the system as well?  All information will be much appreciated.  Oh and how do you use the SysRq key to recover from a system freez.  I read somewhere that this key could be used to recover from a system freez up. I just can't remember where I read it.

Thanks for the help ahead of time.

1st. Alsa sound levels are muted by default, see if they are muted.
2nd Make sure the cd isn't dirty scratched.

On the SysRq key look here.

What would be the easiest way to install the packages without having to got through the rpm's 1 at a time?

...i don't recommend this, but its by far the 'easiest':

Code:
br /]rpm -ivh *.rpm

...the above would recursively install every rpm within the directory you executed the command from (ie, your cd/dvd mount point)

PLEASE note though that you really shouldn't install an rpm without knowing exactly what it is first. chances are its something you either already have or will conflict with a package already installed, or simply something you really don't want (such as a server daemon that would allow remote access to your system without good reason).
