Hello, what I did was really really stupid, but anyway here is what I did. I installed Gentoo, restarted my computer and realized that I never set my root password. Is there some "default" root password. I tried the empty password and some things like that, but none of them worked. Is there any course of action other than to basically reinstall from scratch? I was installing it on a 275 Mhz laptop and it took a while as it was. Thanks a lot.

I tried the blank password, but it didn't work. So it looks like a reinstall from scratch. Stop me if you know anything. Thanks.

NOO! I did the same thing. Just boot the LiveCD mount the harddrive just like in installation, and chroot. Then you can set the password using passwd.
