So I am installing Gentoo...again (see other post) and I got a message saying that Portage was out of date and that I should update it. So i tried an emerge on protage with:
emerge -n '>=sys-apps/portage-5.0.51'
and I get an error saying tjat sys-libs/ncurses-5.4-r5 failed. I get my error in cursesf.cc. After the line to compile that file, i get the following error:
/bin/sh: line 1: -I ../c++: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [../obj_s/cursesf.o] Error 127
I would guess that this has something to do with the fact that that library is being used since I am udating it with Portage, something that depends on it, but I don't know. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I should do? Thanks a lot.

I believe the handbook says not to update portage until after installation. Sorry I did not post in time to stop you from starting over, I just saw this post.
