Get Network Working

Ok, everything boots fine now, my screen flickers but I think that that is just a video driver problem. My question is about the network. I ran the livecd, on which I had network access, and I made a list of all the modules that it had loaded using lsmod. I got the following list:
xirc2ps
ds
yenta_socket
pcmcia_core
evdev
parport_pc
parport
sbp2
ohci1394
ieee1394
ohci_hcd
uhci_hcd
usb_storage
ehci_hcd
I built the kernel with genkernel all, so I should have all the modules that were on the livecd built, but when I do lsmod in my system I don't have some of the modules loaded, mainly:
xirc2ps
yenta_socket
pcmcia_core
and a few others.
When I run
/etc/init.d/pcmcia start
it gives me an error saying:
* PCMCIA support detected
* Starting PCMCIA...
cardmgr[8810]: no sockets found!
* cardmgr failed to start. Make sure that you have PCMCIA modules built or support compiled into the kernel.
This confuses me since it says it detects support but not the socket, nothing has changed in my system since I installed gentoo from when I had the livecd, except for the fact that gentoo was installed. I looked through all the modules and I found the modules (pcmcia_core, xirc2ps, yenta_socket, etc..) but they weren't in the directory that the gentoo install handbook says they should be in to load them and modprobe won't load them (with the error: FATAL: Module ... not found. where ... is the module name). I found the .o's in /lib/modules/2.6.10-gentoo-r6/build/drivers/pcmcia. What do I need to do to get my system to recognize my pcmcia?
Thanks a lot.

Problem solved, I ended up recompiling the kernel with some different attributes and such. Now I have a crazy thing where the command line screen doesn't remove old characters unless it writes over them and doesn't scroll. And, though it is really annoying at least i have network access now. Tell me if anyone knows what could be wrong. Thanks.
