i'm trying to do a system update on my server, but for some reason kdelibs appears to be trying to bring in kde-env, which isn't needed and actually conflicts with the more recent kdelibs builds.

Code:
athlon1200 server # emerge -pv --update --deep --newuse world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating world dependencies... done!

[blocks B     ] >=kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.4-r2 (is blocking kde-base/kde-env-3-r4)

for the record, kde-env has already been removed, as it should be.

Code:
athlon1200 server # emerge -C kde-env

--- Couldn't find 'kde-env' to unmerge.

>>> No packages selected for removal by unmerge.

Code:
athlon1200 server # equery l kde-base/

viewing the tree suggests its actually kdelibs itself that requires kde-env - confusing huh?

[ebuild  N    ]    kde-base/kde-env-3-r4  0 kB

any advice?

cheers, and merry christmas!

Hi,

Kdelibs 3.5.4 is some kind of oldish :-) Maybe you should sync & update first (Mine is at 3.5.5 without any unmasking or ~x86). It's strange that kde-env is coming in again, because some time ago kde-env was merged with an other package which caused the problem the other way around (kde-env blocked the new package).

If that doesn't help, maybe unmerge kdelibs and merge it again (Which might break your KDE i think :-( )

Merry christmas and good luck :-)

Best regards,
pa4wdh

Ps.: Why kde on a server ?

Ps.: Why kde on a server ?

...the server sits in my living area, where apart from anything else my sister tends to visit. since my sister uses the system for internet browsing and i often use it for general administration it seems quite feasible to have it run a desktop of some sort. kde being my personal favourite Smiley.
