Wow, really great :-)
But what happened ? Was the forum offline because of the upgrade, or has the forum been hacked and afther that you decided to change the software ?
However .... i think it's an other step forward :-)

The biggest difference between M$ stuff and the rest ? Most stuff is secure by design, M$ stuff is secure by accident.
bash# killall gaim killall: Don't shoot the messenger !
If we have /dev/powerbutton, what would touch /dev/powerbutton do ?

i notice the whole freak network is being migrated over to smf - must say i'm not too keen on its look or feel to be honest, but at least its more secure and reliable now.

...the forum first appeared to be defaced by an attacker (please note hackers are open source contributors, not anything malicious. please don't credit malicious crackers with the term 'hacker' ). the defacement suggested the download of a "browser toolbar" which i reported to zshare, (who were hosting the download), for investigation. the file was deleted within a day and thus i assume it to be malicious. thankfully only 4 visitors had downloaded the file which just goes to show how much more intelligent the gnu/linux community is in comparison to the windows 'community', given this forum has thousands of unique hits per day.
after a couple of days the defacement was replaced with a linuxforum server response message (http code 403, access forbidden). at this point i assume the forums had been taken offline entirely, for security reasons and to make room for the new. looking at the threads over at phpfreaks.com, it appears erik and his collegues decided to migrate the whole network over to smf as there literally fed up of crackers exploiting the crap coding used by the old software (ipb). mysqlfreaks was taken down too, not just linuxforum, and phpfreaks was already running smf. i assume mysqlfreaks will be back up next.

Hi,
You pretty much nailed it. We're working on the other sites, but do not know when they will be back up. When time permits I assume.
