Hello,

I'm new in Linux but I'm trying to use the portuguese "CaixaMagica"
(www.caixamagica.pt), that was created based on Suse.
My problem is that can't access Linux from my Win XP pc, but from Linux I
can access to my Win XP.
I know that has something to do with samba and tried to work arround the
problem by readding some information from www.caixamagica.pt and other
sites. Until now I still got the same problem.

I have just tried to execute some commands from "/etc/init.d" and I got the
following results:
command: ./smbfs start
result: Mount SMB/ CIFS File Systems     not used
command: ./smbfs stop
result: Umount SMB/ CIFS File Systems    succeeded
command: ./smbfs start
result: Mount SMB/ CIFS File Systems     not used

I hope my english is good enought to make you understand my problem
Thanks,

Paulo Ferreira

In linux create a user called "guest", it should then work.

There is a samba howto at www.tldp.org and O'reilly has the entire
contents of the samba book available free online.

I'm also new to Linux (SUSE 9.1 then 9.2 and now 9.3).  I simply
installed Samba Server with YAST and then made sure I made top level
folders in /home into Shares.  It worked - to my surprise as I don't get
a lot to work first time.

I can see one Linux box at a time from 3 WinXP PCs - but I can't see the
other Linux one!  (OK, so they were set up at different times, one
replaced the other,  and I guess both are running Samba Server so that
is probably the problem.)
