I'm very interested in switching over to Linux, but I'm reluctant to learn a
lot of complicated command line stuff.  I know that's heresy to the
true-blue Linux crowd, but I just don't have the time..  I'm looking for a
distribution that is as point and click oriented as WinDoze but of course
has all the extra benefits of Linux.

Lycoris was getting close a couple of years ago, but now they've been bought
by Mandriva... Is there anyone that has cracked the nut of a truly
mainstream Linux yet?

By an interesting coincidence, the Linux crowd, thenselves, tend not to
have time for people who ask for assistance in phrasing like that.  ;-]

Xandros Desktop OS claims to be that.

It's pretty close.  Kde sets up similarly to Windows.  Version 3 does
require installing in VESA mode.  So, there is a little tweaking needed to
get above the 1024x768 VESA top resolution.  But the info for the fix is
available on the Xandros forums, along with lots of other help & useful
info.

Windows isn't point and click.

Windows is point and click and wait till it gets all screwed up and dig
through the registry to try and fix it then eventually re-install and
pretend that's perfectly reasonable.
