Hi,
I've got a HP surestore DAT 24 (DDS3) tape drive attached to my Gentoo system, and would appreciate some advice in getting the hardware compression to work.
As far as I can see, i've done everything I should. The dip switches appear to be ok, and I've issued on the command line "mt -f /dev/st0 compression 2" but that does not appear to have worked. I'm currenlty running a dump, and the throughput is approx 980KB/s, and it asked for a second volume just before the 12GB mark.
Now bearing in mind that there are some already compressed files on the filesystem, I should be getting a realistic throughput of 15-1600KB/s and around 17GB per tape.
any suggestion would be very usefull.
