Didn't Loki games do a Warcraft II port?
http://www.lokigames.com/ was their site, but they closed down. Maybe some stuff is still available through some channels. Let me dig a little, and see what I can do.

Ok....
Since Loki Games is shut down (booo) I can't find a copy of their WCII port anywhere. BUT, I did find the engine that they used. It's called ALE Clone and is available at
http://www.boutell.com/lsm/lsmbyid.cgi/000437
Now, this comes with no graphics, sound or anyhting like that. But, if you have the WCII CD, it should not be a problem to rip that off of it. I'll keep my eyes open for any further developments on this issue. Did this help anyone, or just complicate the issue?

Really neat game to try is Warzone (GPL'd, of course). It's fully 3D (zoom and rotate view - OpenGL, naturally) a la Empire Earth et al. It's modern, though, which I find pretty cool. It's not exactly like *craft, but it's pretty neat. Stability problems seem to be it, so far as I can tell.

There was a free GPL'd project named FreeCraft (not affiliated with blizzard) that ended up getting a cease and desist order in June 2003 from Blizzard entertainment , Blizzard was saying that FreeCraft used the term Craft in the name and therefore was confusing to people. Blizzard also said that elements of the FreeCraft engine were too similar to Warcraft 2's engine. Personally i think Blizzard was just being a bully picking on a free GPL'd project whose main purpose was to port Warcraft 2 to *nix. The FreeCraft project has been shutdown, however the developers have regrouped and made a new project named Wargus which uses the Stratagus engine which is also GPL'd. Wargus can play Warcraft II with the data files off of the DOS/Macintosh original or Beyond the Dark Portal expansion CDROM's. The Wargus website is http://wargus.sourceforge.net/download.shtml
