well i know it can be done, not sure how to do it though. if anyone knows how to get any sims games working with wine, i would love to know.

anywho, im pretty sure ull need wine (duh), which version im not sure. wintools might come in handy (is it just me or is winetools outdated really bad?). directx9 would be a good thing to get (good luck on finding the full directx9 package without needing a windows license. i believe i got the directx8 redist package (if anyone needs it) but i dont know if it works as i havnt tested it.

ull probably need *gasp* IE to run some games, but it would only be needed by a few games. i know about a month ago i tried to get wine installed and working so i could run some windows p2p progs and i had to install IE (believe via winetools) and when it went to test IE it froze my linux  ohmy.gif  i went 6 months no crashes or freezes and IE froze it, lol tongue.gif

ps: im kinda outta it so if i sound confusing then ignore this post

Cedega is the best way to play Windows games.

You can get native games for Linux like Doom3, UT2004 and installers for Linux HERE. the UT2004 bonus packs also come with installers HERE

You can also get Serious Sam 1 & 2 beta installers for Linux.

Enjoy

No cedega is not free but if you want to play your favorate games, it's the only way in Linux a part from native ones.

i believe a group of people should get together and get the latest wine, then do whatever is needed to get it to play games. i know it can be done, im just very surprised no one has done it.

i would do it but im still not expirienced enough to do it properly and im a perfectionist and it pisses me off when i cant do something (like a project) just right. i can stand some errors and such but to me, if i do something, it just has to work, period.

if no one tries or finds a free wine that supports games, then ill do it myself eventually as i want it bad

don't know if it is illegal or not (probably is... lol) but i got my version of cedega off of bittorrent.

if that isnt an option, you can always download the CVS version or get it from here http://www003.portalis.it/115/

You can get a directx9 patch for Wine, as far as i'm conserned Wine is unstable to say the least.

Found this if you want to play Windows games :-)

i tried the winex from bob villa's link, tried to run 5 games i had and none worked (just like wine, lol). it seems winex, cedega and wine are all just as unstable as each other on my pc.

btw, if ur wondering, i tried the following games (and programs, yes i got curious):
* elf bowling
* elf bowling 2
* would have tried sims but somehow i deleted it sad.gif
* k-meleon
* k-ninja
* metapad

thats all i tried so far, they all failed so i stopped messing with it as ive failed at wine and such over 200 times in the past 3 months

Cedega is best for games, Wine for apps, with Cedega you just install it and do what you do in Windows except right click the .exe and use "open with" cedega.

I have GTA Vice City and Max Payne 2(with pixel shading on) running as good as in Windows.

i did get cedega and tried to run the same games and progs, the games didnt work, however cedega ran k-ninja (a windows only browser i worked on in the past) really well. the only probs i ran across with it was the right click menu in the browser would crash it. i tried yahoo messenger install, worked well till it gave an error about regedit (didnt bother to do anything about it as i was just playing around). metapad worked perfectly, but still the games didnt work.
