You run the file by opening terminal and CDing to the directory the AA installer is in. Then type ./filename.run

You need to change the permissions so you can excute it.
Two ways to do this. If you are using kde you can right click on the file and go to propertise.

The other option is command line.
Here is the command you need.

chmod u+x filename

u = user
x = excute.

I think the key error you are making is that the game you downloaded is slow, lacks good controls, and is all around slugish.  Also it makes you complete training before you play.... very boring.  If you want an army game you really get into, download wolfenstein enemy territory 2.6 for linux, i got it from fileshack.com.... give it a try it will be wirth your while

I would't call aa slugish, but the training is boring and the weapons are awful. Didn't know there was another free linux fps, definantly looks good. Can't wait to finish work and download it at home.

btw do you know of any spy/creep em up linux game in the style of thief etc?

 actually with a .run file you should type  sh filename.run   and not  ./filename.run  i'm not positive what the difference between sh and ./ is but i know ./ requires the file itself to be executable or something and sh doesn't

aa is sluggish et pwns it.
