Hey I have been debating on running Linux.  I mainly run PC games, and listen to lots of music.  Although I have heard that linux isn't the best for gaming.  SO I was hoping to get an opinion on it.  Here's my system specs, and a summary of games I play.

AMD Athlon 3200+
Asus A8V AGP4X/8X motherboard
BFG nVidia 7800 GT/OC
1,024 MB RAM
160 gig Western Digital hard drive

I want to run...

Battlefield 2142, 2, Vietnam, 1942
Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion
F.E.A.R.
Doom 3
Quake 4
Half-Life 2, DoD Source, CS Source
Star Wars Galaxies
Guild Wars
Neverwinter Nights 2
and several upcoming titles I plan to purchase.

A lot of game has a special Linux version. You can find a list here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Linux_games

If your game isn't on the list, you can use wine or winetools to emulate a Windows environment.

Purchase?
If you are going to purchase all your games, you might as well stay with M$.
but if you are looking for over 15,000 games to play for free, then maybe Linux is right for you.

Sorry don't know much abt linux.. You seem to be a gamming guru.. Got a question for you.. I have an ancient lol quake2 game, how can I play online with anyone? Do you know any servers that still host quake2?? We play on our local network usually 2 or 3 of us.. Do you know how I can host a quake2 game for anyone to join?? By the way your system is smoking for gaming later..

Dude, sont even bother trying to play FEAR on linux. Basically you will need a PC from the future to do so, since the FEAR is the 2nd Most resource-requirering game in the world(Serious Sam 2) is first, it will give you proboly like 5fps. Why? very simple - You are emulating Windows and then Installing your game - basically not only you are running linux, but also windows and FEAR lol, try doing dual boot - Windows for gaming, linux for everything else

good luck
