I've got a server with all of it's swap used up, but nearly 1 out of 4GB of ram free.

proc swappiness was set to 10, I've now set it to 1, but it's still got all it's swap used up.

Is there a way to free up some of the swap somehow while the system is running?

Linux is so powerful
and it has every features for adminstration

so u wants to freeup swap space
uuuummmmmm.......

Login as root user
now go to the directory where swap is created
issue command -> swapoff <swapname>
                          rm -f <swapname>

only though work is to find the swap location and to identify it

yes I did this a few weeks ago although I'm not sure what happens to the clear contents of swap, if it is reabsorbed or just dropped on the floor.

ssue command -> swapoff <swapname>
Do not do this, this will slow down your system

This command just put off your swap and make linux to work on your ram
